Improving the Payroll Process to Decrease Cost
The Challenge
The customer was leading a company of 15 employees and as they continued to grow, managing payroll became an increasingly difficult task so they looked at ways to decrease the cost and improve efficiency.
The customer had to research how to calculate holiday pay, ensure proper CRA deductions, taxable benefits, chase down timesheets and field employee concerns about pay and time-off discrepancies. What was meant to be a seemly easy process was taking away from valued time that should have be focused elsewhere and the wanted to decrease the cost associated with managing payroll.
Each pay schedule, management dedicated almost two full days to manually calculating payroll and triple-checking the numbers. Even still, the customer would always worry it wasn’t done right. They were right. No matter how many times they would check the numbers, there were always at least one question or discrepancies on hours, taxes, or deductions.

After looking into various solutions including different payroll softwares, payroll management still demanded too much time and provided very little support for their employees.

Included in this solution was a move onto BrightMatter’s HRIS system which allowed hourly employees to clock in and out through their mobile app, making timesheet approvals an efficient task that managers were automatically notified about.
